The process of growing up entails accepting responsibility for our actions, and in Confirmation we accept responsibility for our faith and destiny. Confirmation is a Sacrament of initiation in the Catholic Church and the individual receives the gifts of the Holy Spirit with the laying on of hands by the Bishop.

Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. ACTS 8:17

The Holy Spirit gives us the courage that we need to practice our faith, by deepening our relationship with Christ and bearing witness to Him in our words and deeds. We are also strengthened for the needs of others. A confirmed Catholic becomes better equipped to carry out the mission of the Church which is love and service.

Am I living as one with a mark of the cross on my forehead? How do I treat others? How do I witness for Christ in my family, school and neighbourhood? What role am I playing in the Church? Am I really growing up spiritually?
