“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who practice it” (Psalm 111:10). Fearing the Lord means fear of separation from God, and fear of seeking joy and hope from other places other than God. Wisdom is the key to lasting happiness and paves our way into a hope-filled future.
He who gets wisdom loves himself, he who keeps understanding will prosper.
Proverbs 19:8
How do you get wisdom? James 1:5 admonished us to ask God for wisdom if we do not have it. Wisdom starts with reverence and respect for God. When we seek Godly wisdom, we do not depend on human reasoning. Godly wisdom outlasts all the treasures in the world. “He who trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered” (Proverbs 28:26). The wisdom of this world is folly with God (1 Corinthians 3:19). Another important factor is that the fear of God requires humility. Proverbs 11:2 says “when pride comes, then comes disgrace; but with the humble is wisdom”. Humility makes us depend totally on God for everything and give him credit for what He does in our lives.
True wisdom is also found in obedience to God and His word. Psalm 119:100 says “I understand more than the aged for I keep thy precepts”. To be true ambassadors of Christ, we must desire and pursue wisdom. “Prize her (wisdom) highly and she will exalt you, she will honor you if you embrace her” (Proverbs 4:8). Secondly, we must study the word of God. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple” (Psalm 19:7). And finally, PRAY.
Wisdom brings us in harmony with God.
