What are the seven deadly sins and why are they called deadly? These sins are pride, gluttony, lust, greed, sloth, wrath, and envy and they are also referred to as “capital sins”.

Let us deal with the sin of lust first.

Lust is an intense longing especially for sexual pleasure. The Bible warns us against lust in 2 Timothy 2:22, to flee from all kinds of lust, and in Matthew 5:28, that looking at a woman lustfully is sin. Lust is experienced by the undisciplined individual that refuses to find satisfaction in God. It is an appetite or desire for what God designed only for marriage, and ultimately, the misuse of the way God designed our bodies. The use of pornography is prevalent in our society today, giving people the opportunity to focus their attention in the wrong way . Should we yield to the cravings of the flesh?

How do we overcome the sin of lust?

The Bible admonishes us in the book of Romans 13:14 to put on the Lord Jesus and make no provision for the flesh or gratify its desires. Flee from sin just like Joseph flew from Potiphar’s wife. Run to God because the more you know God, the less you desire sin. Guard your heart, check your thoughts. Let the meditations of your heart be acceptable to God.

Chastity overcomes lust. Remember that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and should not be defiled. Meditate on Psalm. 119:9 – how can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
