As confirmed Catholics, God has destined us for adoption through His son Jesus Christ. Sometimes we deny this fatherhood by making a god for ourselves. These gods can be in the form of passions that drive us: money, possession, relationships, our bodies, or some other things that we feel gives our lives purpose and meaning.

Then He said to all, “if anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself,

And take up his cross daily and follow me.

What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself?

Luke 9:23,25

Who do we serve? How do we invest our time and prayers? Do we treat others with respect? Do we ask God’s will for our lives and not ours? Allowing God’s will to prevail over ours may not always be convenient for us, but God’s ways are higher than ours. Knowing who we serve and in what priority is important in our lives as Christians. Nothing is worth more than our soul. Christianity is a lifelong commitment. Are we putting God in the right place in our lives? God can only use us when we do!
